Terms of use
Plain language, kept short on purpose. These are the terms you agree to when you use Septet — what's yours, what's ours, and how the plans work. If a clause and this summary ever disagree, the clause wins, but we've tried hard not to make you choose.
The agreement
By creating an account or using Septet — the website, the studio, and the rendering it does for you — you agree to these terms. If you're using Septet for an organisation, you're agreeing on its behalf. If you don't agree, that's fine, but you can't use the service.
These terms cover both the free Bedroom plan and the paid plans. A handful of clauses apply only once you're paying; those say so plainly.
Your tunes are yours
Anything you generate with Septet — the seeds, the renders, the stems and MIDI you export — is yours. You can use it, release it, sell it, and license it, with no royalty or credit owed to us. We claim no rights over the music the engine makes for you, on any plan, including the free one.
This survives your account: cancelling or deleting your account doesn't revoke any licence to music you already made and kept elsewhere.
The engine is ours
The Septet software, the band model, the rendering engines, this design system, and the name and marks stay ours. A paid plan licenses access to the generator, not the source — you're buying the ability to make and keep tunes, not the machine that makes them.
Don't copy, decompile, or resell the generator itself, or pass your account credentials to people outside your plan's seats. Making tunes with Septet is the whole point; reselling Septet as your own is the line.
Fair use of generation
Generation runs in your browser, so "unlimited" is honest — roll the seeds as often as you like. What isn't fair is automating the render or save endpoints to resell our capacity, scrape the service, or stand up a competing API. We rate-limit and, if it continues, suspend accounts that do.
We also ask that you not use Septet to generate material that's unlawful where you are, or to impersonate someone else's released work and pass it off as theirs.
Your account
You're responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has gotten in. One person (or, on the Label plan, one named seat) per login — seats aren't meant to be shared round a room.
You can delete your account at any time from the account sheet. Deletion is real: we remove your email, display name and saved seeds, subject only to the short retention noted in the privacy policy for logs and legally required billing records.
Plans, billing & cancellation
Paid plans are billed in advance — monthly, or yearly for the price of ten months — through our payment processor, Stripe. Prices are shown excluding tax; any VAT or sales tax required where you are is added at checkout and itemised on every receipt.
Cancel anytime, from the billing sheet — no email and no phone call. You stay on the plan you paid for until the period you've already paid for runs out; after that you drop to the free Bedroom plan. Your kept seeds stay readable there; you only lose the chiptune render and anything over the free seed shelf.
Refunds. A new paid plan comes with a 14-day, no-questions refund — write to hello@septet.audio within two weeks of your first charge and we send the money back in full. Beyond that window we don't refund part-used periods, but you can cancel so you're not billed again.
No warranty on taste
The band is deterministic, not infallible — some seeds are duds, and that's part of the instrument. Septet is provided "as is", with no warranty that any given tune will be good, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that a particular render engine will always be available. You play it by ear; the ear is yours.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Septet isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses — lost profits, lost time, a release that didn't land — arising from your use of the service. Where we are liable, our total liability is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms as the studio grows. When we make a material change we'll update the date at the top and, for account holders, send a note before it takes effect. Continuing to use Septet after a change means you accept the revised terms; if you don't, you can cancel and delete your account.
